Postmenopause

Postmenopause begins the day after you officially reach menopause—12 months without a period—and it lasts for the rest of your life. For many women, symptoms like hot flashes or mood swings that started in perimenopause fade within a few years, but for others, they can persist longer.

During this phase, your body experiences a significant drop in estrogen, which can increase the risk of certain health issues like heart disease, osteoporosis, and genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). These changes are why prioritizing your health through diet, exercise, and regular check-ups is so important.

While “menopause” is often used to refer to this stage, postmenopause is a distinct phase that represents a new chapter in life—one where your focus can shift to thriving in your health and well-being.
